How the work is split
Electrical
Power, sensing and the wiring that has to hold
Electrical handles everything between the battery and the motor: power distribution, motor drivers, microcontroller boards, sensor selection and the wiring harness. On competition day this sub-team is the difference between a robot that runs five matches and one that browns out in the second.
Mechanical
Design it, machine it, make it survive the field
Mechanical designs every moving part of the robot — drivetrain, arms, grippers, launchers, chassis — then builds it and rebuilds it after it breaks. Work starts in CAD, moves to the workshop for laser cutting, 3D printing and machining, and ends with the unglamorous part: making a mechanism repeatable enough to survive a whole match day.
Media & Marketing
Sponsorship, documentation and the team's public face
Media & Marketing runs sponsorship outreach, the social accounts, this website, and the photo and video record of every build and competition. It is also the sub-team that keeps the team funded — components, machining and travel are paid for by proposals this group writes. You do not need to touch a robot to be essential to one.
Programming
Control loops, autonomy and the driver's interface
Programming writes the firmware and the control software — motion control, odometry, path planning, autonomous sequences and the manual driver interface. A Robocon match is three minutes long, so every routine has to be fast, deterministic and recoverable when the field is not where the robot thought it was.
